The Hill Winery is located south of Geelong at Waurn Ponds on a unique site on the edge of the Great Ocean Road.

In late 2012, Scotchmans Hilll announced the opening of  The Hill Winery, (formerly Pettavel), and now, as well as being a beautiful location for events and functions, it also produces some beautiful wines.

All these wines are from fruit on the estate:

 

Hill Reserve 2012 Sauvignon Blanc

Pale straw with a green tinge. Ripe tropical fruits of paw paw, guava and passionfruit with citrus notes and a green nettle edge.

Upfront and juicy palate of tropical fruits, nettles with a citrus mid palate and crunchy acid backbone.

Wine making: crushed, de-stemmed and pressed into stainless steel tank. Fermented at 13°C for 14 days. Lees contact post ferment for 2 months. No oak contact.

Alc/vol: 13%

Hill Reserve 2012 Chardonnay

Pale gold with a green tinge. Nectarine and white peach with citrus fruits dominating the bouquet; complimented by creamy overtones, spice and cedar oak. Creamy and nutty oak characters round out the wine, which has a long and lingering back palate.

Wine making:70% of fruit was pressed to barrel for fermentation, with the balance fermented in stainless steel. The wine was aged for 6 months in French oak barriques. No malolactic fermentation.

Alc/vol: 13.5%

Hill Reserve 2011 Pinot Noir

Rich perfumed nose of plum and raspberry fruits; spice and earthy notes supported by a charry oak finish. Medium bodied with excellent mid-palate weight, silky tannins and balanced by firm acidity.

Wine making: crushed and hand plunged in small open top fermenters, then matured in new to 4 year-old French oak barriques for 6 months.

Alc/vol: 13.5%

Hill Reserve 2011 Shiraz

Bouquet displays a complex nose of ripe dark fruits, red berries and plums and a touch of liquorice. This is balanced by spice and well integrated cedar oak. The wine gains overall balance from tight but fine grain tannins and acid.

Wine making: fermented in closed stainless steel fermenters and then matured in new French oak barriques for 15 months.

Alc/vol: 14%
