Gold, Silver and Bronze medals were abundant at the 2010 Yarra Valley Wine Show. The strong medal haul across numerous varieties shows the strength of the Yarra Valley as a premium wine region sitting comfortably alongside the great wine regions of the world. There were a total of 104 medals presented including 3 Top Gold, 13 Gold, 29 Silver and 59 Bronze.

Amongst the many different varieties on show both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were the stand outs accumulating a total of 48 medals including two Top Gold and nine Gold medals - an outstanding result. Shiraz also performed extremely well with two Gold and two Silver medals.

A surprise was the strong results in the class for Museum White wine where there was a 100 per cent strike rate for medals. The judges’ comment summed it up in one word "superb".

The Trophy winners were announced at the Yarra Valley Wine Show Trophy presentation lunch at De Bortoli Wines. With 11 trophies presented it was encouraging to see a number of small wineries such as Oakridge Wines, Seville Estate, Yeringberg and Jansz Estate taking home some of the top gongs.

The 2009 Oakridge 864 Chardonnay reigned supreme collecting three trophies for Best Chardonnay, Best White Wine in Show and Champion Wine of Show.  Seville Estate was awarded the trophy for Best Museum Wine with their 2004 Reserve Chardonnay.

The success of chardonnay fits in line with the gathering momentum of the resurgence of not only Yarra Valley but Australian chardonnay on the world stage.

Jansz Estate, one of the smaller wineries in the Yarra Valley, edged out strong competition from the bigger players to take home two trophies for Best Pinot Noir and Best Red Wine in Show.

Coldstream Hills also took home two trophies with the 2006 Coldstream Hills Sparkling Chardonnay Pinot Noir for the Best Sparkling and Best White Other than Chardonnay.

Other trophies went to:

Yeringberg 2008 The Yeringberg – Best Blended Red or Other Variety

De Bortoli Wines, 2008 DeBortoli Reserve Release Syrah – Best Shiraz

Giant Steps/Innocent Bystander – Most Successful Exhibitor
