Imagine your grocer/supermarket telling you that the only shop in town is empty until November...

This is what the surviving animals of Tasmania's  bushfires now face. In the state's Central Highlands, people who love the area and its wildlife have banded together, helped by those a bit further away, to keep feeding the wildlife until the green shoots of spring have flourished.

So if you love wombats, wallabies, possums and other creatures, not to mention the orphans, please help them keep the feed up through a tough and chilly Tassie winter in the Highlands. Your reward? That great feeling that comes from helping others and, just for you, the chance to win superb Tasmanian pinot noir!

What happened

In the devastating summer bushfires, 55,000ha of habitat was wiped out in the Central Highlands and most of casualties were our beloved wallabies, wombats, possums and other wildlife that call this wild and wonderful part of the island their home.

It was learnt after the terrible Dunalley fires in 2013 that most of the wildlife that perished actually died afterwards of starvation. The wombats in particular suffered as they hid underground then emerged to... no food, not a skerrick.

Scorched earth (soon to be covered in snow) and simply no greenery - that's what these animals now face. But you can help us stop them from starving.

Who's caring now

A band of around 40+ volunteers, made up from a very diverse range of people, has one clear aim in mind – to keep the wildlife fed through the toughest time in the toughest place. They're feeding the wildlife on the ground and that's not an easy task in this environment. Imagine driving up remote gravel roads to places on the plateau known mainly only to the animals themselves, and scattering carrots and feed around then waiting for signs of life.

Imagine then the lighting of your soul when slowly some amble, hop or sidle into the feed and start munching.

You can share that feeling simply by making a donation, knowing that your carrots, vegies and other feed will make a difference. You might also get another feeling of joy if you win a twin pack of fabulous Tasmanian wine!
